A good man knows who he is and has self-esteem and confidence within himself. It’s not arrogance or cocky, just clarity about who he is. When he’s nice and kind, it’s coming from a place of just authentically being a good person. A nice guy may act nice on the surface, but it won’t take long for his insecurities to start showing. He’ll be looking to you to feel better about himself.

2 | A NICE GUY MAY FALL IN LOVE WITH THE IDEA OF YOU V. A GOOD MAN WANTS TO KNOW YOU

If a guy is obsessed with you before he knows much about you, then you may have a nice guy on your hands. Of course, it feels good to be adored and hear lots of compliments, but it’s a sign that he may be falling for the idea of you. He doesn’t know you yet! How can he know how amazing you are. The only place to go when you’re on a pedestal is down. A good man wants to know you — the real you. And he gets that that’s going to take a bit of time and effort.

A nice guy is always going to position himself as the victim of women who have done him wrong. Every ex-girlfriend will be crazy. But guys with crazy ex-girlfriends picked those women in the first place, and in a few months he’ll be putting you in that same category. Stay aware of guys who talk negatively about women. A good man cherishes and respects his woman above others, but also generally likes women. There are plenty of guys who seem nice enough, but dig a little deeper and you’ll see that there’s a lot of disdain for women.

4 | A NICE GUY TELLS YOU HIS CHARACTER V. A GOOD MAN SHOWS YOU HIS CHARACTER

A nice guy will often proclaim that he’s a nice guy. Other people might say it also. It might be just that there’s nothing else that they can say about him because he doesn’t have that much personality or character. A good man doesn’t have to keep telling you “what a nice guy he is.” You’ll see what a nice guy he is — but also that he’s kind, honest, open, and communicative.
